As they celebrate their 50th episode with a new theme song by sports correspondent Jorens Šteinhauers, Otto and Joe discuss the topsy-turvy week that Latvia's ministers had, with Finance Minister Jānis Reirs handing in the 2020 budget, Education Minister Ilga Šuplinska surviving a vote of no confidence and continuing her fight against Univeristy of Latvia rector Indriķis Muižnieks, Environment and Regional Development Minister Juris Pūce giving more way on regional reform, and Defense Minister Artis Pabriks finding himself in hot water over comments about the Latvian Legion.

  1. Congratulations on your explanation of the Latvian Legion. There is a lot of hysteria and misinformation surrounding that unfortunate episode of Latvian history. Both my uncle and step-father were unwilling participants in the Legion, and in my uncle's case it cost him his young life - not even 20. You rightly pointed out that the Latvian Legion was a construct of the occupying Nazi military and the conscription of an occupied people into the occupying force was in fact a war crime. The plight if these unfortunate men, caught up in circumstances beyond their control should be remembered and honoured. Well done Mr Pabriks!

    1. Thanks for the feedback! It is certainly a sensitive, tricky, and multi-faceted issue, and one that we don't feel is correctly portrayed most of the time by certain media outlets. We tried our best to cover all of its sides, as we try to do with all of the issues we discuss.
